Caravan Criminals

This project was to create a game in Unreal with a limited amount of time. Our group decided to create a strategy game where the goal was to rob a caravan of their items, you would do this by defeating the opponents using the strategic placement of your own characters, and then using what they can do to eliminate them one by one.

I was in charge of creating the AI, while Jordan de Jong, the other programmer in this group, was responsible for gameplay elements that the designers couldn’t do.

I chose to use a form of utility AI in this project, I had done so once before and I thought that with a bunch of possibilities for the AI that that would be the best choice, this way they could choose between moving, or taking the same shot with higher difficulty from the same spot. Or switch weapons based on range, sadly the last feature, while the AI was ready for it, didn’t make it in the game due to other problems.

Towards the end, I also took up some other tasks, for example, I made exploding cacti as a visual effect.

I also created the trailer, it was my first time doing video editing, however, no one else on the team was able to do it either. I decided that it was a good opportunity to learn something that I also want to use after dives.
